This year has been a big one for the resale industry. The RealReal went public and are still having massive issues with authentication, social media platforms have become the new place to sell, brick and mortar stores are closing left and right and large players are popping up in big cities.
It seems like everyone has launched a resale business and I keep saying the same thing; if you don’t put in the hard work, you will fail. Period. This isn’t an easy industry and you have thousands of other people doing the same thing as you so figure out how to set yourself apart from your competition.
Counterfeit sellers have infiltrated every platform and as soon as one is shut down, another 10 pop up. This is something I am super passionate about and have zero tolerance for but I’m learning changes need to be made from the top down (think Homeland Security) so I will work to find a way to hold these platforms and counterfeit sellers accountable.
I started CFOC years ago to educate people about how to get into luxury resale, how to authenticate and highlight smaller companies that were overshadowed by the bigger players. As time goes on, I have seen others try and recreate what I have built and that’s wonderful but, I feel it’s heading into a direction that is more for instant gratification (and likes) so, for 2020, I’m going back to the beginning. Helping people who want to not only get into this industry but also be truly successful, promoting companies I trust and believe in and working hard to educate you about luxury brands.
